MEDICAL SPECIALISATION IN FRANCE / RESULTS OF CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The list of Saudi doctors accepted by the French Saudi Commission for a French residency programme to get a French diploma of specialisation is now available

More than two hundred doctors from Saudi Arabia replied to the call for application launched on the website of the French embassy. The number of places offered by France for 2011 is 50. The French Saudi Commission took place on 1st of June. On the basis of the proposals of French specialists, the Commission attributed the 50 places Doctors who have been accepted are required to confirm their agreement within the incoming month (deadline 7 July 2010) to Dr Marie-Christine Avargues, regional counsellor for health issues (marie-christine.avargues@diplomatie.gouv.fr) with copy to Mr Benoît Tamalet, attaché for scientific and academic cooperation at the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Paris (benoit.tamalet@yahoo.fr).

The Commission also defined a waiting list in case accepted doctors would not confirm their agreement to follow the program in France.

-  With the letter of acceptance delivered by the Commission, accepted doctors are able to apply for a sponsorship : should they obtain the financial support, they will be able to be registered in a French language centre via the cultural office of the Saudi Embassy in Paris (when they do not speak French), then to ask for a visa (at the French Embassy in Riyadh or at the French Consulate in Jeddah). The contacts for visas are : Ms Amélie Mamier at the French Embassy in Riyadh (amelie.mamier@diplomatie.gouv.fr) and Ms Salma Atassi at the French consulate in Jeddah (salma.atassi@diplomatie.gouv.fr)

-  Candidates who appear on the waiting list will be directly contacted after 7 July in case a place is available

-  Candidates who have not been accepted to go to France will be individually informed ;

The roadmap for people accepted in France after getting their visa is the following :
- training in French will begin no later than mid September under the supervision of the cultural office of the Saudi Embassy in Paris.
- medical studies will begin in November 2011 under the condition that the French level B2 is certified. Remember that Saudi doctors have the same rights and obligations as the French residents ; under the condition that they pass the required exams, they will get the exact same diploma of specialisation as French doctors. Nevertheless, they are not able to stay in France to practise medicine as a specialist.
